Sewing for beginners with RICARDO, Great British Sewing Bee 2019 FINALIST

20 Oct, 17 Nov | 11 AM-5pm |£75

This is the perfect sewing course if you are a complete beginner and you want to learn new, creative and very useful skills. In this workshop you will learn the basic sewing techniques such as threading a sewing machine and winding a bobbin, cutting and pinning fabric using a simple pattern, understanding basic sewing patterns and creating your own simple garments.

Riccardo is a multimedia producer with a passion for sewing. He grew up in Puglia, south of Italy, in a small town near Lecce. Together with his three sisters, he spent his childhood between the blue sea of Salento and the deep green of its olive trees. His mum was a keen sewer and the sewing machine has always been part of his family environment, however, he only started to learn after moving to London. He started taking sewing classes at his local community centre nearly 8 years ago and hasn’t stopped since. A keen advocate of sustainable fashion, Riccardo tries to reuse and recycle materials wherever he can to reduce waste. He loves upcycling, charity shopping and refashioning unused clothes. His curiosity, passion and, as Esme Young said, unique style and taste, led him to be one of the finalists of the Great British Sewing Bee 2019.

Black History Month | Walking in Their Footsteps

SUNDAY, 13 OCTOBER | 12:30pm – 15:30pm| FREE | Book via Eventbrite

Black History Month recognises black history and achievements and last year marked 30 years of Black History Month events in the UK.

Join us for a day of reflection and contemplation as we consider the path walked by those who came before; the first black British footballers, the first black British newsreader, the first black British model, the first black British MP, the first black British pilot. The list goes on and on and yet it’s still as important now as it ever was to acknowledge where we are and how far we have come.

Join us for an exploration into the magnificent world of you as a Black Person in the UK today! Take time out to reflect on why you are where you are and engage in visioning where you want to be heading.

What to Expect
Walking in their Footsteps workshop is a celebration event that will enable you to consider what you want for yourself on this day of recognition. You will complete some reflective writing, create a visioning board, and consider your next steps.

You may be coming to the workshop to: give thanks for your strengths and wisdom, consider your purposes, connect to your heart's desire, envision your dreams, design your future. Our hope for you is that you will have a snapshot and a sense of yourself and be able to use these insights to grow.

All materials will be provided and places are limited to 12 people.
