How many of us spend an equal amount of time and energy improving our mental wellbeing as we do thinking about our physical wellbeing? Welcome to your first mental fitness class! This session will offer you a series of simple evidence based practices to boost creativity, build stronger relationships, enhance motivation and improve both mental & physical wellbeing through the power of the mind.
Charlotte is a positive psychologist, wellbeing coach and writer. She is renowned for her pioneering work and has been featured in The Journal for Public Mental Health as well as the Mirror and other publications. Her journey was far from straight forward but after years of struggling with her own physical and mental wellbeing challenges she committed to using the lessons she had learned to empower others to experience optimal wellbeing through Mind, Movement & Fuel.
13:45 - 14:30 VOICES OF... with MISS KAKANDE at MISS KAKANDE
In this mysterious and collaborative event guests are invited to enjoy 15 minutes of fame as they take the spotlight and join the conversation. Through a series of weird and wonderful questions we start to connect with each other in interesting new ways. What is created is always unique, with a theme that reveals itself and a sense of belonging between all.
Miss Kakande is a normal(-ish) woman from up North. She came to London knowing no one and for a time it remained that way. She craved connection and feeling part of something. She wanted to be part of the community. The Voices of..is one way of bringing people together, to get people thinking about what matters to them and others and to make everyone feel like they belong. 15:00 - 15:30 MENTAL HEALTH TO MENTAL WEALTH with CHARLOTTE WISEMAN at STEP-INSIDE
“Mental health is defined as a state of wellbeing in which every individual realizes his or her own potential."
In 2017 we heard a lot about 'mental health awareness', you may have heard 'there is not health without mental health' but how much do we really understand about mental health? What does good mental health look like, how can we look after ours and how can we support others who are facing challenging times? This session will demystify mental health, explaining the difference between mental health, mental illness and mental wealth. You will learn to identify the signs of positive mental wellbeing, will learn scientific evidence-based techniques to improve mental health proactively and will understand how you can help those around you.
15:45 - 16:15 YOGA FOR KIDS
We want to get the whole family involved in a healthier 2018 so bring the kids and enjoy this short taster session of Yoga for children. We will explore our inner animal spriti as we move through simple poses to get our bodies active and our minds a little more focused (yes that even works for the little ones!) This will take place in the Yoganest adjoining the main hall at St Margaret's House.
16:00 - 16:45 PLANT BASED FUEL with TATU BEARCROFT at TATU BEARCROFT
A plant based vegan diet is undeniably important to maintain the planets resources and has been proven to be an excellent choice to support health as well disease prevention but when it comes to putting it into practice it can feel a little more complicated. Tatu will tips and tools to bring vegan choices into the home easily and simply. From recipes to alternative milk products, seasoning to protein quantities we will talk about how to implement change for positive outcome in the home.
Tatu trained as a Naturopathic Nutritionist at London’s world renowned College of Naturopathic Medicine, and works as a Registered Nutritional Therapist and Nutritional Chef. She grew up in the UK, Thailand and East African mainly and takes inspiration in her cuisine from her upbringing. 17:15 - 18:00 MINDFULNESS with CHARLOTTE WISEMAN at STEP-INSIDE
Mindfulness has been highlighted as one of the most important tools for the 20th century with benefits ranging from stronger immunity and better sleep to conflict resolution and improved communication. Research has shown that just a few minutes a day of practice reduces stress, enhances creativity, boosts mood and those who regularly practice mindfulness live longer, healthier and happier lives. This introductory workshop will introduce you to the benefits of mindfulness, you will discover just how accessible it is, explore different methods of mindfulness and find practical ways to integrate the practice into your daily life to manage stress, improve productivity and live more fully.
